University Professional Theatre Program (UPTP): The UPTP nurtures Utah’s theatre students by giving them the opportunity to work in a professional production. To date SLAC has created 124 production-based paid positions for university enrolled students who have received crucial experience as actors, assistant stage managers, assistant directors, and assistant designers, all thanks to the UPTP’s support. Each season, we hope to expand this program to mentor more students from local universities, providing them an educational experience outside the classroom they can only get by working alongside established theatre artists. Support for the UPTP develops Utah’s future artists, bringing these students one step closer to actualizing their dreams of a professional career in theatre.
Grace Heinz from Weber State University said this of the program: “This opportunity will be a great experience in stepping out of the university world and way of doing things. I am excited to see how what I have learned in school translates into a professional production. The experience of being an Assistant Sound Designer in this capacity will give me a leg up in securing sound gigs in the future.”
