The Choreography of Language | GOD OF CARNAGE Actor Christy Summerhays

When I first read GOD OF CARNAGE, I was amazed by it the same way I would be amazed by watching a great athletic dancer. I loved it because of the skill I knew it took to create such a thing with the added wonder that comes with knowing I could never do it myself. The limited talent I have has to do with recognizing a good play when I see it...not with actually writing it myself. And I suppose it's okay – because I'm an actor.

So...first of all this is a really really well crafted play...on every level. The way the scenes build upon one another, the unexpected twists, the dialogue, all of it. And for an actor that's a great place to start, because from there you have to subjectify yourself to it. You have to crawl into it – physically, emotionally and mentally. That's why a well-crafted play is such a pleasure to work on...you tend to get rewarded more generously for the pain staking effort you put into it. And rewarded we are everyday we show up to rehearsal to flesh it all out. At least I am. Sometimes it's with tears of frustration and other times it's with the exhilaration of making a new discovery. Anyway you look at it it's a great ride.

GOD OF CARNAGE is a beautifully choreographed piece that doesn't come along all that often and, in my humble opinion, should not be missed.

GOD OF CARNAGE runs from October 13-November 6, 2011. Tickets available online or by calling the Box Office: 801.363.7522.
